Lecture: Melville McLean "Nature in Isolation: The Maine Landscape" January 24 at 4PM

We are proud to announce that Linda Benedict-Jones will be giving a gallery talk on January 24 at 4 p.m. as part of our "Nature in Isolation" exhibition. Please join us for an enlightening discussion of Melville McLean's work and a reception to follow.

Brief biography of our upcoming lecturer:
Linda Benedict-Jones is Executive Director of Silver Eye Center for Photography in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She has also worked in Pittsburgh as Curator of Education at The Frick Art & Historical Center, and as a guest curator of photography at The Carnegie Museum of Art, where she co-curated "Pittsburgh Revealed: Photographs Since 1850," with photographer Charlee Brodsky in 1997. Prior to moving to Pittsburgh in 1993, Benedict-Jones was Curator of the Polaroid Collection in Cambridge, Massachusetts and before that Director of Polaroid's Clarence Kennedy Gallery.

Benedict-Jones became interested in photography in the late 1960s when she moved to Portugal with her husband who was a player/coach in a burgeoning European basketball league. She started as a sports photographer for the Diário de Lisboa and other Lisbon papers but changed to fine-art photography when the couple moved to Paris, France in 1973. After four years in France and two in England, Benedict-Jones had an established reputation throughout western Europe and was represented by The Photographer's Gallery in London, the Galerie Fiolet in Amsterdam, and the Galerie Viviane Esders in Paris. In 1979, she moved back to the United States and enrolled in a program at Massachusetts Institute of Technology to obtain a Master's Degree in Visual Studies. From there, she began to do consulting work with Polaroid, and eventually joined them following graduation.
