Born: 1937 (North Tonawanda, New York)

Cleveland, Ohio from 1956- 1960. In 1959 he completed a Yale University Summer
Art Fellowship in New Haven Connecticut. Mr. Mangold continued his studies
at Yale Universitie’s School of Art and Architecture. He received his
Bachelor of fine Arts from Yale in 1961. In 1963, Robert Mangold received

"Abstraction is an idea, geometry is not” says Robert
Mangold. Mangold has never regarded geometry as anything more than a means
to an end and refuses to give his work the material presence of a formal historical
or political theme. The purposeful absence of contextual information is a
trait he shares with Thomas Nozkowski.
After one has observed that Mangold’s work is related
to the Minimalism movement of the 1960’s and admired the formalism of
elements and reflected on the impeccable craftsmanship, the viewer has only
the image itself to focus on.
If the viewer will allow himself and the work of art to get
acquainted he may become aware that his thoughts dwell on the aesthetic experience
presented by the object before him, its simplicity, its purity and ultimately
its spirituality.
